Running a small business may mean you are working on a very thin budget, but don’t let that keep you from marketing your business! Whether you are a social seller or you own a brick & mortar business, people cannot buy from you if they don’t know about your offer or your services.
There are some things you can do immediately to begin to make your business top-of-mind with your ideal customer.
Lean Into Your Community
You don’t have to think big when it comes to your beginning marketing efforts. Instead think LOCALLY!
- What’s going on in your community?
- What events you can sponsor or participate in?
Become a Master at Networking
Networking requires a time commitment, and it doesn’t provide instant gratification, but a strong network is one of the greatest assets you can have. Start shaking hands – even online! Then ask yourself:
- What networking groups or chamber activities are available in your area?
- Who do you already know who would be happy to support your business?
- Are you willing to make the first move online and reach out to a potential helpful contact?
Don’t be shy about asking for customer referrals! Referrals make it easier to connect with new customers. If you aren’t asking your current connections for referrals, you are missing first-line opportunities for growth. Learn to be your business’s best cheerleader and express confidence in your own services by going for the ask!
Build Relationships
Establishing strong relationships with your customer base is crucial. Reach out to like-minded business owners online or in-person. Be interested in other people and their businesses. Ask questions and get comfortable with collaboration. When you shout out other people and build them up, the law of reciprocity tells us that they will likely want to do the same for you.
Create a Strong Social Media Presence
Social media is hands down the easiest way to market your business. And it’s FREE! Social media is a great way to humanize your business. Be transparent and real. Show off your personality and gain your customers’ trust. Connect with your customers on a personal level. Find out which social sites your audience is on and make your presence known there.
Today’s consumer loves transparency and getting to know businesses on a more personal level. By showing up on social media you allow them to get a closer look, which helps them in their decision-making process and keeps you top-of-mind.
Social media also expands your brands reach way beyond who you personally know. Why would you NOT use it?
